Via’s Cookies has launched packaging made from Verde’s PolyEarthylene® as their primary cookie bag film, bringing sustainable, biobased and biodegradable packaging directly into consumers’ hands.

Via’s Cookies, founded in Ithaca, New York, is more than a bakery; it’s a mission-driven business rooted in inclusivity, community care, and social impact. The company produces a wide variety of cookies including classic, vegan, and gluten-free options, while donating a portion of its profits to supporting students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, reinforcing its commitment to equity, access, and long-term community well-being.
 

From Bakery Vision to Sustainable Packaging Reality

 
Verde’s collaboration with Via’s Cookies exemplifies bioresins in real-world applications, proving that materials innovation can keep pace with performance and sustainability goals.
 
The move to PolyEarthylene® was coordinated through GreenGear® Supply Company, a minority-female-owned startup dedicated to advancing sustainable practices without placing the burden on the end consumer. GreenGear Supply worked with Via’s Cookies to source the appropriate film solution that matched their packaging needs and brand values.
 
Production of the cookie bags was completed by New Tech Plastics, a flexible packaging manufacturer known for working closely with converters to bring sustainable materials into commercial use in Covington, OH. New Tech Plastics used Verde’s PolyEarthylene® biobased film grade resin derived from sugarcane, which is recyclable in existing polyethylene streams and designed to biodegrade in less than three years under landfill ASTM D5511 conditions.
 
This collaboration demonstrates the end-to-end viability of bioresins—from resin supply to finished, branded packaging—without compromising functionality or the well-known appeal of Via’s Cookies.
